CITES means the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. It is an international agreement between Governments under the United Nations. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.

As Hoodia is a wild succulent plant threatened, it is included into CITES apendix II for its harvesting and international trade. That is the reason when you buy legal hoodia gordonii you must see if hoodia pills are manufactured with hoodia allowed to trade. Such circumstance is only demonstrated with a CITES certificate.
