Apple Pectin - Basic Information

What is Pectin?
Pectin, a type of fiber, is found in apples, citrus fruits, grapes, berries, bran and other foods. Pectin produces a gel consistency, which binds to sugars and carbohydrates, slowing their absorption in the digestive tract. Pectin also helps reduce blood glucose levels.

Health Benefits
Studies show that pectin binds with bile acids, lowering cholesterol levels, and may inhibit fat absorption.

Pectin may be useful to diabetics for its positive effect on the digestion of simple sugars and the lowering of blood glucose levels.
