Hoodia H57 and P57

Difference between Hoodia H57 and Hoodia P57

When you look for hoodia gordonii products, you may usually see some products with the mention of H57 or P57. Others are branded as Hoodia 57.

By that, the main question arises: Is there any difference between the so called H57 and P57??

The answer is no. In fact, H57 and P57 are a similar term to refer to Hoodia Gordonii.

Originally, Phytopharm, the english pharmaceutical company acquired the intellectual property rights developed over Hoodia gordonii from CSIR (South African Research and Development organisation).

Then, Phytopharm patented the product as P57 (the P is used in most of their patents). The patent rights were then transferred to Pfizer, which went back to Phytopharm after some time.

Now some technology rights have been licensed to food giant Unilever.

As a direct consequence of such situation some products and many news about hoodia gordonii , hoodia diet pills , hoodia cactus , south african hoodia and similars, used the term P57 into the product description and into the articles.

After some time, other companies coined the term H57 (acronymous for Hoodia 57) just to avoid the patented term from Phytopharm, and the term also became popular.

Some products offered into the market today are branded as H57 and many adevertisements or searches are performed using the term H57 or H57 Hoodia.

Just to avoid legal implications, the fact is that in both cases, P57 and H57 mean exactly the same: products made with Hoodia Gordonii.

The main difference is that only Phytopharm has the right to use the P57 term.

Obviously, there are different products, brands and presentations involved. But with some legal differences, P57 and H57 means almost the same: Hoodia gordonii products. Don´t be confused about it.
